Oh, for chrissakes...

Some kindly troll came by and anonymously "suggested" that I was giving medical "advice" and I can't do that on a website. Well, actually, I CAN put whatever I want on my blog. It's my blog, none of the information is copyrighted, and it's obvious to anyone of reasonable intelligence that I am not your doctor. But just to be clear, I'm not giving anyone any specific medical "advice" here. I answer questions based on my experience and knowledge as a registered nurse, a nurse anesthesia student, and an experienced bandster. It doesn't replace the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a licenced practitioner, i.e. your doctor or nurse practitioner. I'm making no diagnoses or treatment suggestions to anyone. I think that is enough of a disclaimer.

People are dumb, aren't they?

Weight is just hanging in its same place. I think this is going to be the norm for a while. It's interesting, I do lose weight when my husband comes to town--although I don't lose weight when I spend the weekend in Portland. It doesn't seem to work both ways. I was up 1 lb yesterday and this morning I am down 2 lbs. So, whatever. A pound a week isn't going to be happening this close to goal--not even 1/2 lb per week right now. I've been losing a couple pounds a month for a couple of months. I try to be cool with it, but sometimes it does drive me a little nuts. But I have other things to worry about, so now I'm just trying to eat like a normal person, keep up my running, and hope my body cooperates with me eventually. Losing 20 lbs in the first semester of anesthesia school is a pretty good accomplishment, I try to keep that in mind.

There's always SOMEBODY that has to be "all up in your business". Too bad they didn't take the time to read the entire blogs and realize that your advice was SOLICITED!

Ah well, you handled it like you always do, with class and intelligence. Too bad you don't have an intelligence monitor to prevent people like that from visiting your site.

Thanks for providing your site by the way. I'll say it again, it's all the awesome sites out there that have helped me so much during my own journey. It's so cool to be able to email and get answers from someone who has "been there, done that". Thanks Gwen, and to everyone else.

Gosh yes, people ARE dumb.

You're still losing, even if it is slower than you'd like, thats a good thing to keep reminding yourself. You're doing great!!

I hear you on the slow weight loss. I have no "advice" for you but just encourage you to keep up what you have been doing!

I'll bet that comment had to do with your answering my questions. If the troll is looking, I think he/she should be told that not all of us are as dumb as they are and don't take comments from the internet as final-word medical advice.

Thanks Gwen for answering my questions, it really helped with my anxiety. I saw my surgeon a few days after I posted and we're going to play it by ear with the bronchitis. Basically if I'm not cleared up in 5 days then we postpone.

Hi Gwen,

I came across your blog while researching lap-band surgery and have been reading your entries for quite some time now. To date, I've found your blog most insightful, informative and helpful in my decision to undergo WLS. Most importantly, I've found that your entries are RESPONSIBLE and have been integral to my cost-benefit analysis in making an important, life-altering decision.

One of my main concerns is whether I will suffer from excess skin after the surgery. I am not a morbidly obese prospective candidate for surgery, but am definitely obese. I am about 5'3" and weigh close to 172lbs. Ideally, I would like to lose about 40 lbs and am concerned whether I will be able to lose this amount of weight, notwitstanding my low BMI and whether I will suffer from excess skin. Do you have any helpful tips?
